MIXBUD SBS UZ is a high-quality elastic bituminous sealing tape for longitudinal and transverse joints (connections between the same material laid at different times) and for sealing hairline and minor cracks in road pavements made from hot- or warm-laid asphalt mixtures. Manufactured from polymer-modified road bitumen, it offers excellent elasticity and adhesion.
Elastic bituminous MIXBUD SBS UZ tapes protect longitudinal and transverse joints, hairline cracks and minor pavement cracks against water and moisture penetrating into the structure. This helps prevent pavement deterioration during transitional seasons and winter, when water and moisture freeze as ambient temperatures pass through 0°C.
MIXBUD SBS UZ tapes require no primers or undercoats. However, one side of the pavement joint must be laid hot or warm, and the substrate on which the tape is placed must be clean, dry and free of frost, moisture and anti-adhesive substances (e.g. oils, greases and release agents). Remove loose particles and dry any damp pavement surfaces.
In special cases, to improve adhesion – for example on dirty surfaces that are difficult to clean thoroughly – the manufacturer allows primers compliant with EN 14188-4 or priming with a cationic bitumen emulsion according to EN 13808. This is always an individual decision made on site before applying MIXBUD SBS UZ, in line with the manufacturer's recommendations for proper preparation of the construction joint substrate.
Application
Elastic bituminous MIXBUD SBS UZ tape is successfully used in road construction for longitudinal and transverse joints and for sealing hairline and minor cracks in asphalt pavements.
Making longitudinal and transverse joints
For road pavements made from hot- or warm-laid asphalt mixtures.
- The joint should be preliminarily compacted with a roller and evenly formed.
- Lay the tape flat across the joint, overlapping both sides: approximately 70% of the tape width should lie on the hot or warm layer and the remaining 30% on the existing “cold” layer. Wait until heat from the hot or warm mixture softens the tape.
- Then compact with a roller.
- Keep the roller drum well wetted with water so that the tape does not stick to it during compaction. Mineral aggregate with a grading of 0/4 may be used as a surface dressing instead of water.
- For short sections, a vibratory plate may be used (for example around manholes or patches).
Sealing hairline and minor cracks
Elastic bituminous MIXBUD SBS UZ tape can also be used to seal hairline and minor cracks up to approximately 1.5 mm wide in asphalt road pavements.
- Before laying MIXBUD SBS UZ tape over cracks, it is recommended to carefully heat the existing pavement with a propane-butane torch to a temperature between +80°C and +130°C.
- Centre the tape over the hairline or minor cracks.
- Heat the laid tape with a propane-butane torch to soften it.
- Then compact. During compaction, a mineral aggregate dressing is recommended to prevent the tape from sticking to the working surfaces of the roller drum or vibratory plate and being pulled out.
MIXBUD SBS DUZS and MIXBUD SBS UZ tapes can be combined and applied sequentially for all types of construction joints.

German regulations for joints
The product meets the technical requirements of "NAWIERZCHNIE ASFALTOWE NA DROGACH KRAJOWYCH WT-2 2016 – part II" (Polish Technical Requirements for asphalt pavements on national roads, annex to Ordinance No. 7 of the General Director for National Roads and Motorways of 9 May 2016).
The elastic bituminous tape MIXBUD SBS UZ has been tested by the Road and Bridge Research Institute (IBDiM) in Warsaw and holds a current National Technical Assessment (KOT) No. IBDiM-KOT-2026/1198 of 06.07.2026.
Production is carried out under an implemented and maintained factory production control (FPC) system, within national system 4 of assessment and verification of constancy of performance.
The product is safe for people and the environment and holds a current Hygienic Certificate issued by PZH Warsaw, No. BK.60111.0309.2026 of 24.06.2026.
The product additionally meets the requirements of ZTV TL/TP Fug-StB (German technical regulations for joints in road construction).
