Bituminous Tapes

The elastic bituminous tapes MIXBUD SBS DUZS protect the construction joints of road pavements against water and moisture penetrating into the structure – and consequently against pavement degradation in transitional and winter periods (frost damage caused by water and moisture turning into ice as ambient temperatures pass through 0 °C).

Using the elastic bituminous tapes MIXBUD SBS DUZS requires no primers or undercoats. It does require, however, that one edge of the construction joint is laid hot or warm, and that the substrate is clean, dry and free of frost, moisture and anti-adhesive substances (e.g. oils, greases, release agents). Loose particles must be removed and damp joint edges dried. Make sure the joint edges have an even surface and are well compacted.

The elastic bituminous tape MIXBUD SBS DUZS has a self-adhesive layer on one side, so it can be applied quickly and safely "cold", without a gas torch. It adheres perfectly to the surface it is laid on and needs no priming coat.

In special cases – for example on dirty surfaces that are difficult to clean thoroughly – the manufacturer allows the use of primers compliant with EN 14188-4, or priming with a cationic bitumen emulsion according to EN 13808, to improve adhesion. This is always an individual decision made on site before applying the MIXBUD SBS DUZS tape, in line with the manufacturer's recommendations for proper preparation of the joint edges.

The elastic bituminous tape MIXBUD SBS DUZS is successfully used in road construction for making joints in hot- and warm-laid asphalt pavements, and seams at the boundaries of asphalt surfaces – for example against mastic asphalt and concrete surfaces, or against fixtures embedded in the asphalt pavement, such as:

• concrete elements: edging, curbs, drainage channels, manhole frames,
• steel and cast-iron elements: rails, manhole frames, valve boxes,
• plastic elements: manhole frames, valve boxes,
• other fixtures embedded in road pavements.
